Anne McGilvary: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Anne was born in Noranda, Quebec and raised in Sudbury, Ontario
but she now considers herself a Western Canadian having moved
to Calgary, Alberta over thirty years ago.
Art has always been a second nature to Anne. She has dabbled
in a variety of mediums including pastels, watercolours, pencil
crayons, pen and ink, charcoal and oils. She won a city-wide
award for a landscape painting in grade eight and sold her
first painting while still in high school.
Anne prefers Acrylics as a medium to paint with. Her canvasses
evolve using multiple layers of paint with a focus on colour,
light and tonal values. The majority of her reference photos
are taken on day trips to areas west of Calgary.
Anne has taken classes in Landscape painting and Drawing
at the Alberta College of Art and Design. She is a member
of the Foothills Art Club in Cochrane and has displayed and
sold her work at various venues in the Cochrane and Calgary
areas. Anne also enrolls in art workshops with professional
artists on a regular basis. Anne testifies that her Decorative
painting skills played an instrumental part in the evolution
of her original art pieces.
Anne was invited into the Artist Window at the Calgary Stampede
in 2007 after winning an Honorable Mention with a submission
to the Arts and Crafts section of the Stampede in 2006. In
2008 she was juried into the Western Art Gallery of the Calgary
Stampede.
Anne is also a member of the Calgary Decorative Artists and
has attended Conventions hosted by the International Society
of Decorative Painters.
